Join Kognic and Kodiak as they discuss their joint efforts to build a market-leading perception stack for commercial trucking. Isak and Derek, both key stakeholders at Kognic and Kodiak, are responsible for the end-to-end journey from dataset capture and annotation of sensor-fusion to model output for Kodiak’s development, production and validation missions. In this session, you will learn more about:
At Kognic, Isak holds a dual role as Product and Engineering Manager driving the platform strategy for Kognic's software tooling, including dataset exploration, annotation, verification and analytics. With a background in machine learning and data science, Isak merges industry his expertise in mobility with the demands of computer vision. Isak obtained a Master's degree in Complex Adaptive Systems from Chalmers University of Technology, where he studied from 2017 to 2019. Prior to this, he completed a Master of Science in Engineering Physics also from Chalmers.
The Pop in Your Job – What drives you? Why do you love your job?
Bringing machines and humans together is what I love about my role at Kognic. We're on the cusp of some amazing things in AI and being at the center of it all makes me very fortunate. Data isn't just data, but the fuel for what's next.
Derek Phillips is the Head of Perception Engineering at Kodiak and leads a team dedicated to advancing the perception capabilities of the Kodiak Driver. Derek works closely with the AI team to convert raw sensor data into machine and human interpretable representations of the environment to enable safe and reliable autonomy. His notable accomplishments include the creation of Kodiak’s Perception Evaluation Engine to allow for seamless and efficient testing of new perception models and algorithms, as well as the deployment of numerous mission-critical perception components. Derek holds both a Masters and BSc in Computer Science from Stanford, where he specialized in AI. He researched generative adversarial imitation learning for modeling human driver behavior. Beyond his technical interests, Derek is committed to fostering inclusivity in tech, including in his current role as co-director of the local chapter of Black in Robotics.
The Pop in Your Job – What drives you? Why do you love your job?
For me, it's about improving people's lives. I want to help however I can to ensure people can focus on what matters to them, and automate the dangerous or tedious jobs. I want to leave the world better than it is through the application of intelligent robotics.
