David Doria holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. His research was focused on LiDAR data analysis, including object detection, segmentation, and 3D hole filling. After spending time in defense research labs, he spent many years at HERE Technologies, building and leading teams to develop, implement, and produce algorithms for automatic, computer vision-based high-definition map creation. Most recently, Dr. Doria joined Magna Electronics as Director of Engineering. He drives many initiatives from next generation Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to state-of-the-art sensors and vehicle architectures. Dr. Doria also received bachelor and master degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York. During his career, he has been active in several major open-source projects, such as the Visualization Toolkit and Point Cloud Library. He has been published many times in a variety of journals on topics ranging from mobile high-performance computing to object detection in LiDAR. Dr. Doria lives outside of Boston with his wife and two children. When not at work, he enjoys photography and woodworking.
